I mentioned to Dad (sorry Elliott) that I might give advice on how to find non-monklands experience and he said to 'go for it!'. SO here goes!
If you aren't luck enough to get involved in the 'Monklands experience', don't panic there are other ways to get the much needed edge over all the other 5 A students (mumble mumble far too intelligent bitter bitter didn't get any A-grades huff!) sorry about that!
What you want to do is find out if there are any vacacies in you local pharmacy, nursing home, childrens home, play group or anywhere else that you can find a part time job that can let you write things like helping people with medication etc. on a cv. If you can't get paid then volunteer, there is no shame in unpaid work, in fact it sometimes looks better and if you start by putting the drug order away after school in the local chemists then you could find yourself as their next medicince counter assistant on an easy but valuable training scheme - if any of you need a job in Surrey then let me know!
Also us pharmacists get so used to silly questions that having someone putting the order away and as well as asking where it goes says things like 'so what does a beta blocker actually do then?' would make a refreshing change!
Other ideas for experience are, find your locally techy collage and ask about evening and weekend classes. A good choice would be sign language or first aid - volutary work with the red cross is sometimes available, though not always through the collage.
If you really want to be adventurous then why not get involved in life gard training or first aider at a sports day or something like that. Use yoir imagination and if at first it seems really boring think about how good it could sound mid interview when you get asked about hobbies etc. Your not in this to be a train spotter afterall!
Sell your selves. As Elliott always tells me you are the only one who can do it, no one else has a shot at being the best you afterall. Go out there and GO FOR IT !!!!!!
