Hi, I have been told to go to Glasgow Uni, for psychometric tests (is that the correct spelling?) later on this month. Anyways I was just wondering what these entail and if they have any bearing upon the success of your application. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

From what i've heard, it's a series of questions which test your problem solving skills, attitude towards moral issues and confidence in your self!
I believe Australia and some other countries use psychometric testing as part of their admissions procedure... but at the moment, Glasgow's version of the test has no bearing on the success of this years applications, though the process may be implemented in the future..... i'm pretty sure of that!
Obviously the Nextgenners who have been through the test last year can give you a better answer to this one... or indeed correct me if i'm wrong!

Got mine letter in this morning. 27th. 2pm
Should be fun.
Also, I'm sure there will be a few next genners there.
Finally might be able to put a face to some of the names!
In the letter that was sent out with the invitation it does stress that the test will not affect your application. The idea behind the investigation is a good one, so I think I'll defo be attending.
See you's there!
p.s. hope they don't discover my psychotic tendencies. Mind you, if they realise I have a connection with next gen I'm sure they'll understand!!!!!!!!!!

what I said to last year's group was that, although not going wont adversely effect your application, who says that going wont go in your favour - you may be able to drop it as an item in your interview (that you found it interesting / puzzling / etc.) and stop them asking you more awkward questions for a few minutes.
Last year's NextGeners combined it with a shopping trip. After the event, I invited the Admissions Dean to a chat with some NextGeners at Monklands and, as a result, I have ended up on the Admissions Committee. Who knows what will happen this year!

Ok Andrew and me are just sittiing reading these messages in the study landscape.
Just go to the pschometric testing its actually a good laugh. I think you guys get the updated tests and not the same one we had last year. Just get ready to answer questions like
"Is your mother a nice person?",
"A really attractive person walks into the room, are you distracted?" (Obviously I answered definately no to that last question :lol ;) :lol)
Besides it gives you all the cahnce to check out the variety of talent on the course. If there are any stunners give me, Andrew and Kenny a call and the random sleazing will commence! ;)

yeh, from what i hear it doesn't count against you or anything like that - they jsut want an average estimate of how many nutballs they are admitting each year

You get a very entertaining sheet with your results on it, eventually! Itll give you your test score for each section, and a table that lets you interpret what the scores mean

I looked out my results for you lucky people. I was in the middle of the range for the first part, on the left hand side for the second and on the right for the third.
My score in the first part indicated- the ability to interpret and compare information using deductive reasoning to solve problems
My score in the second part indicated- the tendency to value the needs, well-being, and rights of individuals to act in their own best interestes higher than the laws, norms and conventions of society (Freedom for the Individual Orientation)
My score in the third part indicated- the tendency to be highly confident in interacting with others, extraverted, socially bold, forthright. and sometimes quite emotionally reliant on others
This calls for a dance!!

I'd like to have psychometric testing done! Seems sort of fun, really. Is the Aberdeen one invite only?

I think they all are because they're done on behalf of all five Scottish medical schools - we all got letters about it.

School leavers only or Mature/Graduate students, too?
Meg
Pud

No idea, I'm a school student, but it wouldn't make any sense to me to omit mature students - surely they'd want to see how a representative sample of applicants performs.

I'm a graduate and I've got an invite to attend, so us oldies are getting tested too.
Any other grad/mature entrants got a test??

I want a test, too!
I know they haven't decided completely against me since I've just had a letter stating that I am classified as a home student. :D
I think the waiting for notification from my Uni's is making me a bit nuts.
Anyhoo, I'm procrastinating. I need to get to work on my assignments!

Keep forgetting you guys are in VS on a Weds. I think Ive got dissection befre it so if you're sitting next to a guy with a sweet sickly smell coming from him...... no it isn't aftershave its formalin!!! ;)
Think its most likely to be in the seminar rooms of the new med building or the anatomy lecture theatres.

If it's anything like last year, you'll meet up for a shopping trip in the morning first and arrive late.

Right, who's up for meeting up after the test to put some faces to the names??
If so, why don't we arrange to meet afterward. Somewhere like the main gate or something, just after?
