Hey everyone.

Heard on the news the other day that the government were proposing a fixed amount of hours, pay rise and more evening and weekend work for consultants. So that more planning can be made by the hospital managers.

The report also stated that most consultants were against the proposal and I was just wondering why, apart from the fact they dont get to organise thier time.?

When the NHS was created by Aneurin Bevan (Labour Politician) Im sure many of the existing consultants at the time were against it. hence to get them on board Aneurin granted them special priveledges to ensure their co-operation such as abiltiy to still do private work and organise their time. With the new policy being proposed many of these priveledges are in essence being withdrawn from the hands of the consultants. I think that even although they recieve a pay rise they will most likely have reduced earnings due to the inability to organise their routine for private patients. (And who said Mod Studs wasn't useful) ;)
