ANY MORE HELP ??? ANYONE??? thanks sooooo much :)

Hi Kirsty,

Yeah I will get right on it for you.

At the moment I have met four post-graduates who are now in the course but there are many others. They all studied (to completion):

Biomedical Science (Aberdeen) - 2
Physiology (Aberdeen) - 1
Medical Biochemistry (Kings) - 1

The trend so far clearly shows a preference for Aberdeen post-graduates. Also, Biomed in Aberdeen is supposedly the best in the world (hence AABB entrance reqs.)

I will lokk into it further for you.

Best Wishes,

Damien -

PS - You should post these questions on the notice boards so that everyone can see what you are asking me - there may be some others interested.

Noticed that this thread has been dormant for a week, so thought it needed reviced.

When I joined the NHS (35 years ago next August) there was a massive expansion of demand for hospital laboratory testing and the technology wasn't keeping up. So there were loads of biochemists appointed at that time - I think 3 of the group who were interviewed the same day as I was got jobs in Dundee Royal Infirmary - where I started.

Last year there were only 3 trainees appointed for the whole of Scotland.

It is calculated that over the coming 10 years, about 45 Principal and Consultant Clinical Scientists will be retiring. So, with such a small intake in recent years, anyone in a junior biochemist post should have a very good chance of promotion.

Assuming that the existing biochemists (including me) are thought to be worth replacing, there should be a significant up-turn in the numbers being recruited into the service in the next 10 years, too.

However, as with the rest of life, nothing is guarenteed.
