hi everyone,

i have my interview at aberdeen on thursday and i dont have a clue what to talk about when they ask about articles in the news recently. Any ideas?

Also, im havin difficulty comin up with some ideas that ill be able to talk about if they ask "what do you think will be the changes in medicine in the next 5-10 years?"

I'd be very grateful to hear your thoughts

thanx

The BBC news site has a wealth of topical information. Try going to http://news.bbc.co.uk and enter health or medicine in the search box at the top. It throws up lots of articles.

your first stop could be technology - i think the NHS will eventually move onto fully computerised records and the like - they already have computerised X-ray results in some places (like Monklands). i dunno, new types of scanner, new lifesaving equipment, more modern surgical techniques, can anyone think of specific things?

You could mention that evidence based medicine is becoming much more of a reality and within the next five to ten years this is really going to kick off an example being that every clinician etc taking part in more auditing procedures to ensure patient care is at an acceptable level

For an interesting example of this, take a look at www.bestbets.org. The people in Manchester have been looking at the currently available evidence to come up with treatment recommendations for many common A&E problems.

There's also the cot death case where the mother went to prison that has been in the news a lot lately and the ethical decisions that may imply from the doctor who first reported suspicion

Did anyone else see the documentary they did regarding her case?
