Hi, is there any book you people would recommend for biochemistry.

At the moment, I am using instant notes for biochemistry. However, it doesn't have enough backgound detail and scope for further reading.

So I thought I'd ask first before i go out and buy one.

Thanks ppl

Whichever one is in the library was my approach ^_^

I used mostly Dow's biochemistry but it's hard work as the index is pretty bad. There is a copy of a new index online somewhere but the location escapes me at the moment.

All the library ones are taken out at moment.

I wanted to know what all the students are reading, or what s the popuar choice amongst them, before heading into town and spending my hard earned at waterstones.

Ive got a copy of it saved as well.I tried to find the index on Google - lots of references to the book being as good as useless without a decent index - including NextGen - but couldn't find the index. How big is the index? Would it be worth posting it here as a service to the community?

Its worth having it if u own dow, cos the index is rubbish, but it can be a useful book but as ruth says it can be hard work. Depending on what ur looking for, it can be spread all over the book, and the entrys in the index are either not there or just plain wrong!

You will need to be a glasgow student to get access to it tho, so i dont know how helpfulit will be.

P.S. You need Adobe Acrobat before you can down-load it.

I can get into the index as well, so looks like you don't need a login/pass to access it.

:grlaugh: You really don't know how much storage space we have here, do you Elliott? Anyway, the site the file is stored on is intended for logged in Glasgow University students, so a link to it is fine while it works but it would be best not to copy the file to the site here.

i like clinical biochemistry by John Baynes, Marek Dominiczak i like it cos the diagrams are really good, and the information is generally in the one area.

but some others i know like lippincott, it just depends what you like, have a look at them ansd see.

If you join doctors.net you can get access to a free online clinical biochemistry book, which is actually quite good.

that's our course text and it's pretty good, just as long as you look at the key in the first chapter that applies to all the diagrams in the whole book!
