hi everyone

my friends and i have just started volunteering at our local alma club. Its really great fun and a valuable experience.Anyway they are desperate for volunteers so if anyone wants to help pls let me know!!!!!

i'm also starting voluntary work at local hospice (st andrews) that is if they accept me ive just sent away an application form.

Anyone heard of the Befriending Project we're doing it at school - you go and spend a few hours a week with an elderly person at a hospital and write their life story. Its really interesting and old people are the greatest!!! They're really funny and have the greatest stories>

Well anyway

Bye

I would go but i'm sure you go on a night i work. I've heard of other trips to Lourdes that i'm sure 'devlinator' may have heard of. It's a catholic based organisation that get volunteers to go to Lourdes to help the sick for a week, i think? My friend Elizabeth went on one last summer

I would love to volunteer at places such as the alma club however, when you have student debt up to your eyeballs and need all the money you can get to see you through uni the next year you don't have much time. Anyone know where I could get a beast of a summer job. I'm off to MANCHESTER in Sept., it will be great fun however my bank manager may have a few concerns!!!

ALMA club is a social club for adults with special needs! As a helper you would hel to set up games encourage others to take part help members take part and generally have a GREAT time!!

Mostly you are there to encourage everyone to have a good time and make as many friends as possible!!!

think i do something similar but it only runs over the summer. which is a total pain cos id love to do it all year round!
we work with special needs kids, taking them to adventure parks n generally getting them mixing with each other n having fun.
we have some budding young artists n some kids who r amazing at the monkey bars (even better than my big bro n hes GOOD at the monkey bars). so impressive!

Hi everyone!

I do voluntary work in the hospice. I work in the elderly care ward. I really enjoy it, all the staff and patients are friendly.

Good expperience. I have only met one other volunteer while i have been there over the past 2 months. They usually only have 6 volunteers at once.

I basically just talk to the people, help them with meals, play bingo(legs eleven!!!), make tea.

Volunteers are really there in the ward i am in for company for the patients. Some don't get many visitors so i go to chat with them and keep them company for a few hours. I would recomend it to anyone, even if you only want to do it for a few weeks.

P.S. Dont worry if you have applied and dont hear for a while. They have to wait until there is a vacancy and you will need to go for an interviw(really its just a chat with the volunterr co-ordinator and she is really nice)
